Why Is My Formuler Box Buffering?

Buffering is the most common complaint among IPTV users, and it can stem from several different sources — your internet connection, the IPTV server, your local network setup, or even the device settings themselves. This guide breaks down each cause and gives you practical steps to resolve it.

Step 1: Check Your Internet Speed

Before adjusting any device settings, verify that your internet connection meets the minimum requirements for streaming:

Stream QualityMinimum Speed Required
SD (480p)5 Mbps
HD (720p/1080p)15–25 Mbps
4K Ultra HD50+ Mbps

Use a speed test app on your Formuler device (or a phone on the same network) to check your actual speeds. If speeds are well above the requirement but you're still buffering, the issue lies elsewhere.

Step 2: Switch to a Wired Connection

Wi-Fi is convenient but inherently less stable than a wired Ethernet connection. Interference from neighboring networks, walls, and other devices can cause intermittent signal drops that manifest as buffering.

  • Connect your Formuler device directly to the router via an Ethernet cable.
  • If running a cable isn't practical, use a powerline adapter or a MoCA adapter as an alternative.
  • If you must use Wi-Fi, connect to the 5GHz band rather than 2.4GHz for reduced congestion.

Step 3: Adjust MyTVOnline Buffer Settings

MyTVOnline has configurable buffer settings that can significantly impact playback stability:

  1. Open MyTVOnline 5 and go to Settings.
  2. Navigate to Player Settings.
  3. Increase the Buffer Size from the default to a higher value (e.g., from 3,000ms to 5,000ms or 8,000ms).
  4. Save and restart the player.

Note: Higher buffer sizes mean a slightly longer initial load time before playback starts, but smoother viewing once it begins.

Step 4: Clear the App Cache

A bloated app cache can slow down MyTVOnline and cause playback issues:

  1. Go to Settings → Apps → MyTVOnline 5.
  2. Tap Clear Cache.
  3. Also tap Clear Data if the problem persists (you will need to re-enter your service credentials).

Step 5: Check the IPTV Server Status

Sometimes buffering isn't your fault at all — it's the IPTV provider's server under load. Signs this is the case include:

  • Buffering only on certain channels (especially popular live events)
  • Issues only at peak viewing hours (evenings, weekends)
  • Other devices on the same network stream non-IPTV content without issue

Contact your IPTV provider to ask about server performance or whether alternative server URLs are available.

Step 6: Restart and Reboot

A simple restart resolves many transient issues:

  • Restart the Formuler device (Settings → Restart or long-press power button).
  • Restart your router and modem by unplugging them for 30 seconds.
  • Re-launch MyTVOnline and test again.

Step 7: Use a VPN (Advanced)

Some ISPs deliberately throttle IPTV traffic. If you notice buffering only on streaming content but not on regular downloads, your ISP may be the culprit. A reputable VPN service can bypass throttling by encrypting your traffic. Install a VPN app from the Google Play Store on your Formuler device and connect to a nearby server before launching MTO5.

When to Contact Support

If you've tried all the above steps and buffering persists, reach out to your IPTV provider and Formuler's official support channels. Provide details about your connection type, device model, and the specific channels or times when buffering occurs to help them diagnose the issue faster.
